A porphyrin ring-fusion polymer which consists of two or more ZnII-porphyrin rings fused in a single direction and in which any two porphyrin rings adjacent to each other are fused by three covalent bonds, that is, one meso- meso carbon bond (i.e., one bond between meso-position carbon atoms) and two .beta.-.beta. carbon bonds (i.e., two bonds between .beta.-position carbon atoms adjacent to the meso-position carbon atoms); a process for preparing the porphyrin ring-fusion polymer regioselectively by conducting the fusion reaction in an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent in the presence of a quinone and a Lewis acid containing a rare earth element under reflux; and fused-ring porphyrin compounds obtained by subjecting the prophyrin ring-fusion polymer to demetallization or replacement of the Zn atoms by other metal atoms.
L'invention concerne un polymère formé par fusion de noyaux de porphyrine, c'est-à-dire qui est constitué d'au moins deux noyaux de Zn?II¿-porphyrine fusionnés dans un seul sens et dans lequel deux noyaux de porphyrine quelconques adjacents sont fusionnés par trois liaisons covalentes, à savoir une liaison meso-meso carbone (c'est-à-dire une liaison entre des atomes de carbone en position meso) et deux liaisons .beta.-.beta. carbone (c'est-à-dire deux liaisons entre des atomes de carbone en position .beta. adjacents aux atomes de carbone en position meso). L'invention concerne également un procédé permettant d'obtenir, de façon régiosélective, ledit polymère à noyaux de porphyrine fusionnés, selon lequel la réaction de fusion est conduite dans un solvant hydrocarboné aromatique, en présence d'une quinone et d'un acide de Lewis contenant un élément des terres rares, sous reflux. De plus, l'invention concerne des composés du type porphyrine à noyaux fusionnés que l'on obtient en soumettant ledit polymère à noyaux de porphyrine fusionnés à une démétallisation ou à un remplacement des atomes de Zn par d'autres atomes métalliques.
