A method and a virtual device driver (400) for monitoring the creation and destruction of child processes (445, 450, 465) for threads within an application executing in a computer system controlled by an operating system (405), such as Windows. A list is provided (455) for storing existing child process database structures corresponding to child processes existing within the executing application (410). The list is checked periodically. If, when checked, the list has no entries, it is safe to assume that the existing child process and, possibly, related grandchild processes, have exited and execution of the application is complete. Other applications in a series of applications, for example, during the installation of a software program, may then be executed with minimal risk of corruption due to concurrent execution of the applications in the series.
La présente invention concerne un procédé et un pilote d'appareil virtuel permettant de surveiller la création et la destruction de process fils (450, 554, 465) ou trains de travaux à l'intérieur d'une application s'exécutant sur un système d'ordinateurs commandé par un système d'exploitation (450) tel que Windows. On dispose d'une liste (455) pour ranger les structures de base de données des process fils existants correspondant à ceux des process fils existant à l'intérieur de l'application en cours d'exécution (410). Cette liste est sujette à vérifications périodiques. Si une vérification indique que la liste ne contient aucune rubrique, on peut penser en toute sécurité que le process fils existant, et éventuellement les process petit-fils s'y rapportant sont sortis et que l'exécution de l'application est achevée. D'autres applications d'une suite d'applications, par exemple pendant l'installation d'un logiciel, peuvent s'exécuter avec un minimum de risques de corruption des fichiers par suite de l'exécution concurrente des applications de la suite.
