ABSTRACT A process is disclosed for producing porous, through-flowable mouldings made of silicium carbide having low electric re- sistance, as well as a diesel soot filtering element produced according to this process. An appropriate granulated powder mix, composed for example of coking organic binder, silicium and a nitrogen compound, is moulded into a green body, is coked in an inert gas atmosphere or under vacuum at a temperature between 600° and 1000 °C, then silicated at 1400° to 2000 °C. If the pow- der mix contains no nitrogen compounds, the green body is silicated in a nitrogen-containing atmosphere. Advantageous embodi- ments of the invention concern individual details of the powder mix preparation. This process makes it possible to produce a die- sel soot filtering element that can be electrically heated up and regenerated.
