This invention discloses a process comprising reacting diethylene glycol and morpholine in the presence of hydrogen over a catalyst selected from the group consisting of copper; cobalt on amorphous silica; and cobalt on alumina to produce compounds having the formulae: Image (1) Image (2) This invention also discloses a process comprising recycling product compound (2) into the same reaction to increase the yield to compound (1). Compound (1) is known by the names 4,4'-(oxydi-2,1-ethanediyl)bis- morpholine; bis(morpholinoethyl)ether; N,N',2,2'-dimorpholinodiethyl- ether or TEXACAT? DMDEE. Compound (2) is known by the names 4- (2(2-hydroxyethoxy)ethyl) morpholine and hydroxyethoxyethyl morpho- line (HEEM).
