- 9 - INLINE CENTRIFUGAL FAN ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION An inline centrifugal fan conventionally includes a centrifugal impeller mounted within a peri- pheral wall of the housing adjacent an inlet end wall and driven by a motor within the housing having a shaft along a central axis of the housing. Air from the impeller is directed radially outwardly against the peripheral wall and then turns axially along the peri- pheral wall toward an outlet end of the housing which includes a flange arrangement for connection to a duct. The present invention modifies a conventional arrange- ment by providing the peripheral wall as a frustoconi- cal shape tapering smoothly from the inlet end wall at which its diameter is maximum to the narrow end at the outlet end to allow the outlet end to directly couple to the end of a duct by flanges mounted on the outside of the peripheral wall at the outlet end.
