The present invention is a cost effective receiver using antenna diversity. Several illustrative embodiments are provided. In one embodiment, the receiver comprises a first antenna for receiving an information packet, an error detection decoder for determining if there are any errors in the information packet, a switch for switching from the first antenna to a second antenna, and a controller for controlling the switch to switch from the first antenna to the second antenna if an unacceptable number of errors are detected in the information packet.
