Gas fireplace inserts and pellet stoves are popular household appliances used to both heat room(s), and to provide ambiance and create a pleasant atmosphere within the room in which the fireplace is located. However, while one can see the flame from the fireplace, and feel the heat created by it, one cannot hear that sound which is normally produced by a burning fire. Described herein is a device designed to provide this sound, to complete the sensory experience normally associated with fireplaces. The invention is composed of a digital sound playback device for playing the pre-recorded sound(s) of a burning fire, a memory chip to digitally store sound files, a processor, a volume control circuit, a remote control transmitter, a remote control signal receiver and a switched power supply. A remote control device is provided for the invention to allow control of the audio functions of said invention, and a circuit and by-pass button are included to allow for linkage of the functioning of the invention with thermostat control of the fireplace insert. The invention is designed such that it may be incorporated into the design of a gas fireplace insert, as in its first embodiment, or used as a separate unit to provide the sound of a burning fire to any location, in any circumstance, as in its second embodiment.
