A B S T R A C T There is provided a pharmaceutical composition selected from (a) a therapeutically effective amount in unitary dosage form of (-) 1-methyl-4-(3-cyano-5H-dibenzo[a,d]-cyclo- hepten-5-ylidene)-piperidine substantially free of the corre- sponding dextrorotary isomer and the nontoxic pharmaceutical acid addition salts thereof and the pharmaceutical carrier therefor, and which possesses peripheral and central anti- cholinergic activity, and (b) a therapeutically effective amount in unitary dosage form of (+) 1-methyl-4-(3-cyano-5H- dibenzo[a,d]-cyclohepten-5-ylidene)-piperidine substantially free of the corresponding levorotatory isomer and the nontoxic pharmaceutical acid addition salts thereof and the pharamaceuti- cal carrier therefor which possesses tranquilizing properties.
