ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: The invention relates to polymers of acyloxyalkyl meth- acylates containing structural units of the general formula I: Image (I) where R1 is (CH2)n-O (n - 2 to 10) or (CH2CH2-O)n (n - 1 to 4): R2 is an alkyl group containing 4 to 21 carbon atoms and having the quarternary carbon atom in the .alpha.-position with respect to the carbonyl group, to the method of their prepara- tion, as well as to the method for preparation of block copo- lymers consisting from a polymethacrylate block and a poly (acyloxyalkyl methacrylate) block, by the polymerization initiated with anionic and free-radical initiators and to modification of the polymers and copolymers of acyloxyalkyl methacylates (inclu- ding the block copolymers) resulting in the partial or total con- version of hydrophobic acyloxyalkyl methacrylate units into hydrophilic hydroxyalkyl methacrylate polymers or copolymers. The polymers according to the invention may be advantageously used as synthetic leathers, chromatographic materials, hydrophilic layer on medical article surface, etc...
