Presently disclosed is a method and apparatus for monitoring and diagnosing a content delivery network (CDN) by examining received content elements that have been marked with one or more identifiers. Diagnosing is accomplished by using all or part of one or more of the identifiers associated with errored or corrupted content elements to determine which network elements or connection paths are faulty. The identifiers may contain content-, server-, or receiver-specific data that denotes, respectively, the source of the content, the links associated with one or more of the servers utilized in the network, and/or data associated with the receiving computer system. Both marking and diagnosing may be performed at any location within the CDN or at any host computer connected to the CDN or receiver. The marking may also be dynamically reconfigured in order to facilitate diagnosis.
La présente invention a trait à un procédé et un appareil pour le contrôle et le diagnostic de réseau de distribution de contenu par l'examen d'éléments de contenu reçus qui ont été marqués avec une ou plusieurs identifiants. Le diagnostic est réalisé au moyen de l'ensemble ou d'une partie d'un et de plusieurs identifiants associés aux éléments de contenu erronés ou altérés en vue de déterminer quels éléments de réseau ou de trajets de connexion sont défectueux. Les identifiants peuvent contenir une donnée spécifique de contenu, de serveur, ou de récepteur qui indique, respectivement, la source du contenu, les liens associés à un ou plusieurs parmi les serveurs utilisés dans le réseau, et/ou une donnée associée au système informatique de réception. Le marquage et le diagnostic peuvent tous deux être effectués à un site quelconque au sein du réseau de distribution de contenu ou d'un ordinateur hôte quelconque connecté au réseau de distribution de contenu ou au récepteur. Le marquage peut également être soumis à une reconfiguration en vue de faciliter le diagnostic.
