- 1 - Abstract The present invention provides a peptide capable of binding to interleukin 6, represented by the general formula: H-X-A-Y-Z (I) wherein A is a peptide segment formed by binding 6 to 50 amino acids; each of X and Y is a single bond or an amino acid residue selected from the group consisting of Asp, Glu, Lys, Ala and a divalent group of the formula: -NH(CH2)n-CO- (wherein n is an integer of 1 to 17), or a peptide segment composed of 2 to 10 amino acid residues selected from the above group which are bound to each other through a peptide bond; Z is a hydroxyl group or an amino group. The invention further provides an adsorbent for interleukin 6 comprising the peptide immobilized on a carrier. The peptide of the present invention having interleukin 6 bound thereto is suitable for use in the treatment of autoimmune diseases.
