A communication system transmits and receives communications within a sectorized cell between at least one primary station and at least one secondary station. The communication system includes a unit for generating and shaping a beam; an antenna for transmitting and receiving signals within said beam; and a unit for directing the beam. The shaped beam is directed at a plurality of predetermined directions; either continuously or discretely. When a WRTU successfully acquires the beacon common channel (42), it reports the identifier number of the common channel it acquires to the PS(44). This information is used by the system to determine the WTRUs location(46). The PS then assigns a dedicated channel in the proper direction of the WTRU(48).
L'invention concerne un système de communication qui émet et reçoit des communications à l'intérieur de cellules sectorisées entre au moins une première station et une seconde station. Ledit système de communication comprend une unité de production et de mise en forme d'un faisceau ; une antenne pour émettre et recevoir des signaux à l'intérieur dudit faisceau ; et une unité pour diriger le faisceau. Ledit faisceau mis en forme est dirigé sur une pluralité de directions prédéterminées, soit de manière continue soit de manière discrète. Lorsqu'une unité émetteur/récepteur sans fil (WRTU) acquiert avec succès la voie normale de balise (42), il rapporte le numéro indicatif de la voie normale qu'il acquiert à la station primaire (PS) (44). Cette information est utilisée par le système pour déterminer l'emplacement (46) de l'unité émetteur/récepteur sans fil (WRTU). Puis, ladite station primaire attribue une voie réservée dans la direction propre de l'unité émetteur/récepteur sans fil (WRTU) (48).
