A new isoform of manganese superoxide dismutase (MnSOD) and polynucleotides encoding it have been identified. This isoform, MnSOD E3(-), is a splice variant lacking exon 3 of the full length MnSOD. The polypeptide can be expressed using appropriate host cells. Modulation of either the expression of the polynucleotides of the activity of the polypeptide is also described. Furthermore, diagnostic and therapeutic methods have been developed as a consequence of the isolation of the polynucleotides and polypeptides.

La présente invention concerne l'identification d'un nouvel isoforme de speroxyde-dismutase de manganèse (MnSOD) et des polynucléotides le codant. Cet isoforme, le MnSOD E3(-) est un variant d'épissure dépourvu de l'éxon 3 sur toute la longueur du MnSOD. On peut exprimer ce polypeptide en utilisant des cellules hôtes appropriées. De plus, cette invention concerne la modulation soit de l'expression des polynucléotides, soit de l'activité du polypeptide. Par ailleurs, on a pu mettre au point des méthodes diagnostiques et thérapeutiques grâce à l'isolation de ces polynucléotide et polypeptides.
