Herein disclosed are methods that are prognostic for renal cell carcinoma, particularly renal clear cell carcinoma, afflicting a vertebrate. An exemplary prognostic method comprises detecting the presence of, and quantitating the level and/or extent of a MN/CA9 gene expression product in a sample from the affected subject, wherein if 50% or fewer cells are found to express the MN/CA9 gene, then the subject is considered to have a poorer prognosis. MN/CA9 gene expression products useful in the prognostic methods include MN protein, MN polypeptide and/or MN nucleic acids. The methods are useful as an aid in the selection of treatment for a patient with renal cell carcinoma, alone or in combination with conventional tumor stage and/or grade information. The methods of the invention can be used, for example, to identify those patients requiring more aggressive therapy regimens, or those patients most likely to respond to adjuvant immunotherapies, particularly MN/CA IX/CA9-targeted therapies.
L'invention concerne des méthodes permettant de pronostiquer un hypernéphrome, notamment un hypernéphrome à cellules claires, chez un vertébré. Une méthode pronostique exemplaire consiste à détecter la présence d'un produit d'expression génique MN/CA9 dans un échantillon tiré du sujet concerné et à quantifier le taux et/ou l'importance dudit produit. Si 50 % ou moins des cellules expriment le gène MN/CA9, alors le sujet est considéré comme présentant un pronostic moins favorable. Les produits d'expression du gène MN/CA9 utiles pour les méthodes pronostique comprennent une protéine MN, un polypeptide MN et/ou des acides nucléiques MN. Les méthodes selon l'invention peuvent contribuer à la sélection du traitement approprié à un patient souffrant hypernéphrome, seules ou combinées à des informations classiques sur le stade et/ou le degré d'évolution tumorale. Les méthodes selon l'invention peuvent servir, par exemple, à identifier les patients dont le traitement exigent des schémas posologiques plus agressifs ou les patients qui sont le plus susceptibles de réagir à des immunothérapies adjuvantes, notamment des thérapies ciblées sur MN/CA IX/CA9.
