Apparatus for human-computer interaction, permitting human control of one or more computer services, comprising: an input apparatus receiving at least one word from the human user; an analysis apparatus arranged to analyse the word or words; an interface for controlling said one or more computer services, in dependence upon said word or words; and an output apparatus generating a response to the human user in dependence upon said word or words; characterised in that said input apparatus, said interface and said output apparatus, at least, are separately executing programs, and in that said programs communicate one with another asynchronously.
