The present invention will be referred to as a "suction cup-magnet clamp" or just "clamp", for the purpose of brevity. The clamp is comprised of two separate assemblies which when placed together in their intended position can hold an item or items against a smooth surface. The two separate assemblies are (1) the base: comprised of a piece of magnetically attractive metal attached to the top of a suction cup, and referred to as the base; and (2) the top: comprised of a magnet attached to a handle, which is magnetically attracted to the metal on the suction cup base, and is referred to as the magnet. When the two pieces are brought together so that the face of the magnet aligns with the face of the metal on the base, the attraction is strong enough to act as a clamp around or through a third item or items. The practical purpose of this invention is to hold articles such as paper or cloth, against a smooth surface. Since they are two separate pieces, they are able to provide this clamping ability not only around the edges of an article, such as the edges of a piece of paper or cloth, but also to clamp in the middle of an article, such as the centre of a piece of paper or cloth. In addition, the fact they are separate pieces allows for great flexibility in the invention's use, not only in terms of where they may be placed, but also that heavier items may be held, since more clamps can by placed in more locations on the item to be held.
