The radar system comprising a plurality of active phased array transmit/receive networks. Each network comprising a direct frequency synthesiser having an accumulator or adder which is controlled by a frequency setting digital input data and which in response to clock pulses of the requisite frequency provides an incrementally and cyclically varying address signal. This signal is applied to memory means in which are stored a multiplicity of digital signals corresponding to individual samples of signal waveform to be read out and fed to digital to analogue converter means. The waveform amplitude of the output signal from the memory means and the phase starting point of the output signal is controlled by digital waveform amplitude and phase signals, in which the requisite analogue output signals from the converter means of the respective direct frequency synthesisers are applied through. switching means of the networks to the appertaining transmit aerial elements.
