A disposable diaper 1 is provided on its inner side with an opening 8 extending across a crotch region 21 into a rear waist region 22 over a predetermined area of a core 4 and being normally biased to protrude from the inner surface of the diaper 1. The opening 8 comprises a pair of cushioning pad members 6A, 6B spaced apart from each other and a pair of liquid- resistant side flaps 7 spaced apart from each other transversely of the diaper 1 and extending longitudinally of the diaper 1.
