Method and device to control and condition the behavior of the Varroa destructor mite in a beehive, or in another environment where bees reproduce. The method comprises a step of applying, in the beehive or in the aforesaid environment, a chemical composition comprising at least one of the following substances: (+)-2-hydroxyhexanoic acid, (-)-2-hydroxyhexanoic acid, (+)-3- hydroxyhexanoic acid, (-)-3-hydroxyhexanoic acid, or a mixture thereof.
