A step assembly generally includes a step and a mounting member for attaching the step to a trailer hitch mounted to a vehicle. The step is pivotally attached to the mounting member and rotates relative to the mounting member from a generally horizontal position to a generally vertical position. The step includes a stepping member upon winch a user steps to gain access to the cargo area of a vehicle. When the step is in the generally vertical position, the stepping member is positioned higher than the bumper of the vehicle.
