A gas detector for detecting the presence of a light absorbing gas within an atmosphere (10) containing the gas, the gas detector includes a light source (12), a detector (14) arranged to detect a presence of incident radiation from the source (12) and to provide an output signal (46) representative of the level of incident radiation from the light source (12). Electronic circuitry (13) is arranged to process the output signal (46) to provide an indication of the incident radiation. A power supply (40, 36) for cyclically energising the light source (12) is also provided. The power supply being arranged to deliver substantially constant power at the or each level of energisation of the light source (12).

Cette invention concerne un détecteur de gaz destiné à détecter, dans une atmopshère donnée (10), la présence de gaz absorbant la lumière. Le détecteur de gaz se compose d'une source de lumière (12) ainsi que d'un détecteur (14). Ce détecteur permet de détecter la présence d'un rayonnement incident provenant de la source (12), et émet un signal de sortie (46) rendant compte du niveau de rayonnement incident provenant de ladite source de lumière (12). Un circuit électronique (13) traite le signal de sortie (46) afin de fournir des informations sur le rayonnement incident. Une alimentation (40, 36) est aussi prévue pour l'excitatin cyclique de la source de lumière (12). Cette alimentation est capable de fournir une puissance sensiblement constante pour un niveau donné ou pour chaque niveau d'excitation de la source de lumière (12).
