ABSTRACT A device for retaining bait on a fishing hook which comprises a pair of elements which define a bait retaining means, the elements being moveable between a first open position wherein bait may be inserted to a second closed position adapted to retain the bait. The device is designed to be secured to a fishing hook and preferably is of a one piece structure of a resilient deformable plastic material wherein the first and second elements are biased towards either the first or second positions. The device obviates the need to impale the bait on the fishing hook.
