The subject invention provides materials and methods useful in regulating blood flow. In a preferred embodiment, the subject invention provides peptides that are able to enhance nitric oxide (NO) activity and/or elevate cellular guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). Through these mechanisms, the subject invention can be used advantageously to effect vasorelaxation, thereby providing therapeutic benefit in a variety of contexts. In a specific embodiment the subject invention provides novel peptides that have been found to enhance the activity of endothelial cell nitric oxide synthase eNOS). These peptides have also been found to reduce the cGMP-specific phosphodiesterase activity.

La présente invention porte sur des matériaux et sur des procédés utiles dans la régulation de l'écoulement sanguin. Selon un mode de mise en oeuvre préféré, l'invention porte sur des peptides qui sont capables de renforcer l'activité de l'oxyde nitrique (NO) et/ou d'augmenter l'acide guanosine monophosphate cellulaire (cGMP). Par ces mécanismes, l'invention peut être utilisée de manière avantageuse pour effectuer une vasorelaxation, ce qui permet d'obtenir, dans divers contextes, un bienfait thérapeutique. Selon un mode de mise en oeuvre spécifique, cette invention porte sur de nouveaux peptides qui se sont avérés renforcer l'activité de la syntase de l'oxyde nitrique des cellules endothéliales (eNOS). Ces peptides se sont également avérés réduire l'activité de la phosphodiestérase spécifique de cGMP.
