A plasma-based dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) ion source is configured for flowing afterglow sampling and ionization of analytes. A method of direct sampling for mass spectrometric analysis includes providing an afterglow from a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma device, directing the afterglow with a flow of heated plasma support gas to a sample positioned externally to the DBD device, ionizing at least a portion of the sample with the afterglow and heated gas, and, analyzing ionized species from the sample in a mass spectrometer. A system for mass spectrometric analysis of a sample includes a mass spectrometer having an entrance aperture, and, a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) ion source having a heated plasma support gas for directing DBD afterglow to a sample positioned between the DBD ion source and the entrance aperture of the mass spectrometer.
La présente invention concerne une source d'ions à décharge à barrière diélectrique (DBD), à base de plasma, qui est configurée pour faciliter l'écoulement d'un échantillon à incandescence résiduelle ainsi que l'ionisation d'analytes. Selon l'invention, un procédé d'échantillonnage direct pour analyse de spectrométrie de masse consiste : à obtenir une incandescence résiduelle à partir d'un dispositif à plasma à décharge à barrière diélectrique (DBD) ; à diriger l'incandescence résiduelle avec un flux de gaz de support plasma chauffé vers un échantillon disposé de façon externe par rapport au dispositif à DBD ; à ioniser au moins une partie de l'échantillon avec l'incandescence résiduelle et le gaz chauffé ; et à analyser les espèces ionisées trouvées dans l'échantillon au moyen d'un spectromètre de masse. Selon l'invention, un système danalyse de spectrométrie de masse d'un échantillon comprend un spectromètre de masse pourvu d'une ouverture d'entrée, et une source d'ions à décharge à barrière diélectrique (DBD) à laquelle est associé un gaz de support plasma chauffé pour diriger l'incandescence résiduelle dune DBD vers un échantillon disposé entre la source d'ions à DBD et l'ouverture d'entrée du spectromètre de masse.
