The present invention provides an improved pediatric lipid emulsion. The lipid emulsion can be constructed so that it is administered either enterally or parenterally. Pursuant to the present invention, the pediatric lipid emulsion comprises a source of linoleic acid, a source of alpha-linolenic acid, a source of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), a source of medium chain triglycerides, and a source of oleic acid. Methods for providing lipids to a neonate are also provided.
