The present invention relates generally to intravascular catheters (14). More particularly, the present invention pertains to angioplasty catheters (14) with a support block (10). According to a preferred embodiment, an angioplasty catheter (14) comprises an inner tube (12) having a proximal end (28), a distal end (30), and a lumen (32) extending therethrough; an outer tube (16) disposed over the inner tube (12), the outer tube (16) having a proximal end (36) and a distal end (38); a balloon (20) coupled to the distal end (38) of the outer tube (16); an inflation lumen (18) defined between the inner tube (12) and the outer tube (16), the inflation lumen (18) in fluid communication with the balloon (20); and a support block (10) coupled to the inner tube (12). In addition, a method for manufacturing an angioplasty catheter is disclosed.
