The invention relates to a process and equipment for purifying flammable gas (G), in particular low-tem- perature carbonization gas (SG). In this case, the gas (G) is scrubbed and discharged as pure gas (R). Conden- sate (U) is discharged. It is provided that the conden- sate (U) is distilled in a distillation unit (4). The volatile constituents (F) are admixed to the pure gas (R), whereby the calorific value of the latter is increased. The non-volatile constituents (N) are dis- charged. They can be fed to a low-temperature carboniz- ation drum (7) and carbonized therein at low temperature. The pure gas (R) can be used as fuel gas for the low- temperature carbonization drum (7).
