A tundish impact pad (10) comprises a body of refractory material capable of withstanding contact with molten steel, the body comprising a base (15) having an impact surface (16) for molten steel, an outer sidewall (17) extending upwardly from the impact surface (16), the outer sidewall (17) extending around the base (15) to completely enclose it, an annular body portion (18) connected to the sidewall (17) and providing a top surface (19) substantially parallel to the impact surface (16) and defining an opening (20) into which molten steel can be poured, the lower surface of the annular body portion (18) and the inner face of the side-wall (17) defining a recess (21 ) having an undercut portion (22) extending continuously around and above the impact surface (16), wherein a first portion (19A) of the top surface (19) is at a lower level than the remainder of the top surface (19) and the recess (21) beneath the first portion (19A) of the top surface (19) is of smaller cross section than the remainder of the recess (21). The impact pad (10) is particularly intended for use with a longitudinally-extending tundish having a steel inlet zone towards the end opposite to the outlet zone(s).
L'invention a pour objet un coussin d'impact (10) de bassin de coulée, qui comporte un corps constitué d'un matériau réfractaire capable de résister au contact d'un acier en fusion. Ledit corps comporte une base (15) ayant une surface d'impact (16) destinée à recevoir l'acier en fusion, une paroi latérale extérieure (17) se dressant à partir de la surface d'impact (16) et s'étendant autour de la base (15) de façon à l'enfermer complètement, et une partie annulaire (18) reliée à la paroi latérale (17), offrant une surface supérieure (19) sensiblement parallèle à la surface d'impact (16) et définissant une ouverture (20) par laquelle de l'acier en fusion peut être versé. La surface inférieure de la partie annulaire (18) et la face intérieure de la paroi latérale (17) définissent un creux (21) ayant une partie en retrait (22) qui s'étend sans interruption autour et au-dessus de la surface d'impact (16). Une première partie (19A) de la surface supérieure (19) se situe à un niveau inférieur à celui du reste de la surface supérieure (19), le creux (21) situé sous la première partie (19A) de la surface supérieure (19) ayant une section transversale plus petite que celle du reste du creux (21). Le coussin d'impact (10) est tout particulièrement destiné à être utilisé dans un bassin de coulée qui s'étend longitudinalement et qui a une zone d'entrée d'acier placée vers l'extrémité opposée à la zone ou aux zones de sortie.
