Procedure for determining the properties of a log (5), in which procedure a moving log is radiographed by means of more than one X-radiation source (4) and the radiographic information is received by means of detectors (9) measuring X-radiation. According to the invention, the stemwood and knots of the log are calculated by a principle based on a knowledge of the geometry and density of stemwood and knots. After the measurement, the effect of stemwood in the radiographic projections is eliminated by filtering and the knot mass is projected from the radiographic projections to volumetric elements (6) in a system of cylindric coordinates and, from the value of each volumetric element, an evidence value representative of the presence of a knot in the element is derived. The evidence values of mutually associated elements are combined, thus producing an evidence value for the aggregate to permit the knots to be located.
L'invention concerne un procédé pour déterminer les propriétés d'un tronc (5). Dans ce procédé, un tronc en mouvement est radiographié par plusieurs sources de rayons X (4) et cette information radiographique est reçue au moyen de détecteurs (9) mesurant les rayons X. Selon l'invention, le bois de fût et les noeuds du tronc sont déterminés selon un principe basé sur la connaissance de la géométrie et de la densité du bois de fût et des noeuds. Après la mesure, l'effet du bois de fût dans la projection radiographique est éliminé par filtrage et la masse des noeuds est projetée à partir des projections radiographiques, sous forme d'éléments volumiques (6) dans un système de coordonnées cylindriques. A partir de chaque élément volumique, on dérive une valeur caractéristique indiquant la présence d'un noeud dans l'élément. Les valeurs caractéristiques d'éléments mutuellement associés sont combinées, ce qui fournit une valeur caractéristique pour l'agrégat, permettant la localisation des noeuds.
