Improved flow modifier assembly (40, 60) for a water intake system having a cylindrical intake screen (44, 64) prevents damage to fish and other aquatic organisms by providing a controlled velocity profile which causes the average flow velocity (58) to closely approach the peak flow velocity. By extending two or more concentric tubular flow modifiers (42', 52) or (62', 67, 68, 69) into one end of the screen, it is possible to achieve flow uniformities of more than 90 %, as compared to a maximum of about 72 % for a prior art configuration utilizing a single tube flow modifier (22). In addition, the size, weight and cost of screen required can be greatly reduced for a given peak flow velocity as compared to prior art devices.

L'invention concerne un dispositif modificateur de débit (40, 60) destiné à un système de prise d'eau équipé d'une grille d'arrivée d'eau cylindrique (44, 64). Ce dispositif permet de ne pas porter atteinte aux poissons et autres organismes aquatiques, grâce à un profil des vitesses contrôlé permettant à la vitesse de débit moyenne du débit (58) d'approcher de très près la vitesse de crête du débit. L'insertion de deux ou plusieurs modificateurs de débit tubulaires concentriques (42', 52) ou (62', 67, 68, 69) dans une extrémité de la grille permet d'atteindre une uniformité du débit de plus de 90 %, par comparaison avec la valeur maximale d'environ 72 % qu'on obtient avec une configuration classique mettant en oeuvre un modificateur de débit à tube unique (22). En outre, la taille, le poids et le coût de la grille requise peuvent être fortement réduits pour une vitesse de débit de crête donnée, par rapport à des dispositifs antérieurs.
