A reset device (100) resets an electronic device (108) by monitoring a telephone line (110). The reset device (100) detects a first ring signal transmitted via the telephone line (110) and starts a timer. The ring signals transmitted via the telephone line (110) are counted and compared to a preselected number. When the number of ring signals counted by the reset device (100) is equal to the preselected number, a signal is transmitted to the electronic device (108) causing it to reset. 31
