An improved nozzle assembly having one or more nozzles for sootblowers used to project streams of compressible cleaning media against internal surfaces of combustion devices for cleaning the surfaces. The nozzles are designed with an inside throat configuration having a diverging section defined by an inverse hyperbolic sine function. This throat configuration has been found to provide enhanced nozzle performance in generating a coherent stream of cleaning media with a high dynamic impact pressure. In addition, a relationship of the length of the nozzle protruding within the lance tube to the lance tube inside diameter has been developed which provides enhanced performance for downstream longitudinally displaced nozzles in a lance tube assembly.
