Osteoporosis apparatus for measuring ultrasonic characteristic(s) of a patient's bone comprises: two ultrasonic transducers (12) spacedly arranged in respective head (1, 2) in the apparatus for ultrasonic tranmission from one to the other; circuitry (29, 30, 31) for controlling transmission from the one transducer, measuring the reception at the other and providing an output indicative of the ultrasonic characteristic(s); the apparatus including: a fluid system having two diaphragms (22) arranged in the respective heads so that there is a fluid path from each transducer to its diaphragm and a gap between the diaphragms which is occupied in use by a patient's bone.

Appareil permettant de mesurer la(les) caractéristique(s) ultrasonore(s) de l'os d'un patient. Cet appareil comprend deux transducteurs ultrasonores (12) positionnés à une certaine distance l'un de l'autre dans des têtes respectives (1, 2) de l'appareil, ce qui permet la transmission des ultrasons de l'un à l'autre; des circuits (29, 30, 31) servant à commander la transmission depuis le premier transducteur, à mesurer la réception au niveau du deuxième transducteur et à produire une sortie indiquant la(les) caractéristique(s) ultrasonore(s); ainsi qu'un système de fluide comprenant deux diaphragmes (22) placés dans les têtes respectives de sorte qu'il existe un chemin pour le fluide de chaque transducteur jusqu'à son diaphragme respectif et un espace entre les deux diaphragmes qui, en mode d'utilisation, est occupé par un des os du patient.
