To provide an approach to software update with scaleable disturbance there is proposed a state copying method for a computation system with at least two logic partitions wherein a state of new software in a standby partition (6, 16) is updated to the state of old software in an executing partition (16, 6) while continuing execution of the old software. Data is transferred from the executing partition to the standby partition in a scaleable way and as soon as the same state is achieved for the standby partition (6, 16) and the executing partition (16, 6) the execution is switched to the new software. This allows to scale the degree of disturbance due to the software update to what is deemed suitable.

Cette invention visant à pondérer les dérangements occasionnés lors d'une mise à jour de logiciel porte sur une technique de copie d'état pour système informatique comportant au moins deux partitions logiques. Dans le cadre de cette technique, un état d'un nouveau logiciel dans une partition de réserve (6, 16) est amené à l'état d'un ancien logiciel dans une partition d'exécution (16, 6) alors que se poursuit l'exécution de cet ancien logiciel. Le transfert de données de la partition d'exécution vers la partition de réserve s'effectue de façon échelonnée et, dès que l'on est parvenu au même état dans la partition de réserve (6, 16) et la partition d'exécution (16, 6), l'exécution bascule vers le nouveau logiciel. Cette technique permet de pondérer les dérangements occasionnés par la mise à jour d'un logiciel pour les ramener à un niveau jugé convenable.
