Disclosed is a method of enhancing open cell formation in making extruded alkenyl aromatic polymer foams of about 30 % or more open cell content. Open cell formation is enhanced by incorporating into the foam an ethylene copolymer having a Vicat softening point of about 85 ~C or less. The ethylene copolymer is incorporated at from about 0.1 to about 7 percent based upon the weight of the alkenly aromatic polymer material comprising the foam.
L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de favoriser la formation d'alvéoles ouvertes dans la production de mousses polymères aromatiques alcényle extrudées contenant environ 30 % d'alvéoles ouvertes ou plus. La formation d'alvéoles ouvertes est favorisée par l'incorporation dans la mousse d'un copolymère éthylénique dont la température de ramollissement Vicat est inférieure ou égale à environ 85 DEG C. Le copolymère éthylénique est incorporé à un pourcentage d'environ 0,1 à environ 7 basé sur le poids de la matière polymère aromatique alcényle comprenant la mousse.
