A process for preparing propene and 1-butene by reacting 2-pentene with ethene in the presence of a metathesis catalyst comprising at least one compound of a metal of transition group VIb, VIIb or VIII of the Periodic Table of the Elements and also a process for preparing propene by a) reacting 1-butene and 2-butene to give propene and 2-pentene in the presence of a metathesis catalyst comprising at least one compound of a metal of transition group VIb, VIIb or VIII of the Periodic Table of the Elements, b) subsequently separating the propene and 2-pentene formed, c) subsequently reacting the 2-pentene with ethene to give propene and 1-butene in the presence of a metathesis catalyst comprising at least one compound of a metal of transition group VIb, VIIb or VIII of the Periodic Table of the Elements, d) subsequently separating the propene and 1-butene formed, e) subsequently returning the 1-butene formed to step a) are described.

Méthode pour préparer du propène et du 1-butène en faisant réagir le 2-pentène avec de l'éthylène en présence d'un catalyseur de métathèse renfermant au moins un métal de transition des groupes VIb, VIIb ou VIII du Tableau périodique des éléments; méthode pour préparer du propène par a) réaction du 1-butène et du 2-butène pour l'obtention de propène et de 2-pentène en présence d'un catalyseur de métathèse renfermant au moins un métal de transition des groupes VIb, VIIb ou VIII du Tableau périodique des éléments; b) par séparation du propène et du 2-pentène formés; c) par réaction ultérieure du 2-pentène avec de l'éthylène pour former le propène et le 1-butène en présence d'un métal de transition des groupes VIb, VIIb ou VIII du Tableau périodique des éléments; d) par séparation ultérieure du propène et du 1-butène formés; e) retour ultérieur du 1-butène formé vers l'étape a).
