A sliding motion chop saw, wherein the normal vertically arcing motion of the abrasive wheel provided by a normal pivot arm is combined with free horizontally arcing motion for the pivot arm pivot as desired and caused by the operator, said free horizon- tally arcing motion made possible and rigidly controlled by a novel vertically arranged rocker arm assembly, allowing the abrar- sive wheel to be moved back and forth within limits, preventing overheating of the cut and thereby preventing gumming up of the cutting edge of the wheel, with the normal rigidly planar diepla- cement of the wheel preserved through vertically torsional rigid- ity of the novel rocker arm assembly.
