Abstract of the Disclosure Graphical System For Controlling A Programmable Device and Associated Method A graphical system and method are provided for controlling a programmable device such as a robot or the like. An operator selects, assembles, and interconnects a plurality of skill icons on a computer screen. Each skill icon has associated with it, a menu of input parameters that the operator may change. As the parameters relating to any skill are altered before execution or by halting the robot, the operator can fine tune the process that defines the operation to be executed. Each skill executes independently of other skills and only one skill may execute at any instant in time. A token is passed from skill icon to skill icon so that a next skill may execute.
