A method and apparatus for positioning labels (25) on a graphical display (2), which, in an illustrative embodiment, can include labels (25) for aircraft icons (20) in an air traffic control system's computer graphics display. The present invention advantageously identifies clusters of overlapping labels and objects (6, 8, 10, 18), and calculates non-overlapping label positions on a cluster by cluster basis. In another aspect of the present invention, the movement of labels (25) is accomplished in a smooth, incremental fashion so that cognitive distraction to the user of the graphical display terminal is kept to a minimum.
Cette invention concerne une technique et un appareil permettant de positionner des étiquettes (25) sur un affichage graphique (2), lesquelles étiquettes, selon un mode de réalisation, peuvent englober des icônes d'avion (20) pour un affichage infographique utilisé dans le cadre d'un système de contrôle de la circulation aérienne. La présente invention offre l'avantage de permettre d'identifier des étiquettes et des objets (6, 8, 10, 18) qui se chevauchent et de calculer des positions non chevauchantes, champ par champ. Selon un autre aspect de l'invention, le déplacement des étiquettes (25) se fait de façon régulière et progressive de sorte que la distraction cognitive à laquelle est exposée l'utilisateur du terminal graphique est réduite au minimum.
