2112223 9300263 PCTABS00019 An apparatus is described for filling a liquid product into containers (12) moving along a linear path. A metering screw (18) is rotatably mounted within a tube (14) extending horizontally above the container path, so as to make sliding contact with the tube interior on either side of a slot (28) which is formed along the bottom of the tube. A space formed within the tube interior around the metering screw forms a distribution chamber for the liquid product, and as the screw rotates the helical gap of its thread uncovers the slot so that liquid product supplied to the distribution chamber forms spaced product streams which move progressively along the tube and fall into the containers beneath. The apparatus can be cleaned easily and is particularly suited for aseptic filling applications.
