Stable coating solutions are prepared for the application of improved electrocatalytic, mixed oxide coatings, using soluble compounds of at least two platinum group metals and at least one soluble compound of a valve metal which are solubilized in an anhydrous solvent mixture. Dimensionally stable anodes including mixed oxide catalytic coating layers from these solutions possess a longer useful life.
