The invention concerns a novel chromogenic medium for isolating Staphylococcus aureus, characterised in that it comprises in a culture medium of Staphylococcus aureus at least one of the following two chromogenic agents: 5-bromo 6-chloro 3-indoxyl phosphate and 5-bromo 4-chloro 3-indoxyl glucoside and it further contains deferoxamine.
