A method of increasing retention and drainage in a papermaking furnish comprising adding to the furnish an effective amount of a diallyl-N,N- disubstituted ammonium halide/acrylamide copolymer and an effective amount of a cationic structurally-modified water soluble polymer, wherein the cationic structurally-modified water-soluble polymer prepared by initiating polymerization of an aqueous solution of from about 95 to about 5 mole percent of an acrylamide monomer, and from about 5 to about 95 mole percent of a cationic monomer, and adding at least one structural modifier to the polymer solution after at least 30 % polymerization of the monomers has occurred.
La présente invention concerne un procédé qui permet d'augmenter la rétention et le drainage d'une composition fibreuse destinée à la fabrication du papier, selon lequel on ajoute à ladite composition fibreuse une quantité efficace d'un copolymère d'halogénure d'ammonium diallyl-N,N-disubstitué/acrylamide et une quantité efficace d'un polymère cationique structurellement modifié soluble dans l'eau, polymère que l'on prépare en amorçant la polymérisation d'une solution aqueuse comprenant entre environ 95 et environ 5 % molaire d'un monomère d'acrylamide, et entre environ 5 et environ 95 % molaire d'un monomère cationique, et en ajoutant au moins un modificateur structurel à la solution de polymère après qu'au moins 30 % de la polymérisation des monomères a eu lieu.
