A composite material having superior tribological properties includes a first polymer being a transfer film forming polymer and a second polymer mixed with the first polymer. The first polymer is at. least 10 weight % of the composite and the composite provides a wear rate of <10-7 mm3/Nm and an average friction coefficient of said composite no more than 0.15. The first polymer can be PTFE and the second polymer a polyaryletherketone (PEEK). A method of forming composites includes the steps of providing a plurality of transfer film forming polymer particles and second polymer particles, and molding or extruding the particles at a temperature sufficient to allow softening and mobilization of at least one of the transfer film forming polymer particles and the plurality of strengthening pháse polymer particles to form an interconnected network, wherein the composite formed provides a wear rate of <10-7 mm3/Nm.

L'invention porte sur un matériau composite aux propriétés tribologiques supérieures, comprenant un premier polymère, à savoir un polymère de formation de film de transfert et un second polymère mélangé au premier polymère. Le premier polymère correspond à au moins 10 % en poids du composite et le composite accuse une vitesse d'usure inférieure à 10-7 mm3/Nm et un coefficient de friction moyen ne dépassant pas 0,15. Le premier polymère peut être un PTFE et le second polymère un polyaryle éthercétone (PEEK). Un procédé de fabrication des composites selon l'invention consiste à utiliser une pluralité de particules polymères de formation de film de transfert et de secondes particules polymères, puis à mouler ou extruder les particules à une température suffisante pour permettre le ramollissement et la mobilisation d'au moins l'une de la pluralité de particules polymères de phase de durcissement et des particules polymères de formation de film de transfert pour constituer un maillage interconnecté, le composite formé accusant une vitesse d'usure inférieure à 10-7 mm3/Nm.
