A histological tissue freezing process is provided. The process includes spraying a chemical, tetrafluoro- ethane, onto a portion of a histological tissue specimen before sectioning thereof. The use of tetrafluoroethane has the advantages of not causing ozone depletion, reduced global warming potential and producing a colder spray. A spray can for spraying the chemical is also provided.
