A method for preventing or retarding the development of atherosclerotic lesions or restenosis involves administering to a subject, preferably a human, an effective amount of an anti-viral composition directed against CMV, and optionally an anti-microbial composition directed against C. pneumoniae. These compositions may be conventional chemical anti-microbial pharmaceutics. Alternatively, the compositions may contain a cytomegalovirus (CMV) protein or fragment thereof (or nucleic acid containing compositions expressing such protein or fragment). Such compositions may contain an immunogenic C. pneumoniae protein or fragment thereof (or nucleic acid containing compositions expressing such protein or fragment). The protein/nucleic acid compositions are administered in an amount capable of inducing cell mediated immunity and/or antibody response in the subject.
Cette invention concerne un procédé visant à empêcher ou à retarder le développement de lésions athéroscléreuses ou de resténoses, qui consiste à administrer à un sujet, de préférence humain, une quantité efficace d'une composition antivirale dirigée contre le cytomégalovirus (CMV), et éventuellement une composition antimicrobienne dirigée contre C.pneumoniae. Ces compositions peuvent être des produits pharmaceutiques antimicrobiens chimiques classiques. Ces compositions peuvent également contenir une protéine de cytomégalovirus ou un fragment d'une telle protéine (ou un acide nucléique contenant des compositions exprimant une telle protéine ou un de ses fragments). Ces compositions peuvent contenir une protéine de C.pneumoniae immunogénique ou un fragment d'une telle protéine (ou un acide nucléique contenant des compositions exprimant une telle protéine ou un de ses fragments). On administre lesdites compositions contenant la protéine ou l'acide nucléique en quantité suffisante pour induire une immunité à médiation cellulaire et/ou une réaction immunitaire chez le sujet.
