Le substrat est formé d'un feutre de fibres minérales, renfermant le cas échéant, un agent mouillant, obtenu par compression longitudinale continue, à un taux compris entre 1,5 et 15, d'une nappe de fibres minérales dans laquelle les fibres ont, à l'origine, une tendance à se disposer suivant des couches ou strates parallèles aux faces infé- rieure et supérieure de cette nappe, la compression ayant lieu avant le traitement thermique de la nappe servant à fixer la structure.
