According to a further broad aspect of the present invention there is provided a process for expediting and manufacture of a hydrogel contact lens suitable for insertion into the eye. The process comprises washing a hydrophilic polymeric contact lens in a series of processing stations to hydrate the lens and remove leachable species from the lens. The lens is then sealed in a final package for the lens with a buffered aqueous saline solution under conditions effective to neutralize the pH and osmolality of the lens to be compatible with that of the eye and to maintain hydration of the lens.

Le procédé consiste à laver une lentille de contact en polymère hydrophile dans une série de postes de conditionnement pour hydrater la lentille et enlever les espèces chimiques lessivables de la lentille. La lentille est ensuite scellée dans un emballage final pour la lentille avec une solution saline aqueuse tamponnée dans des conditions efficaces pour neutraliser le pH et l'osmolalité de la lentille pour qu'ils soient compatibles avec ceux de l'oeil et pour maintenir l'hydratation de la lentille.
