ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Novel substituted pentaalkylchromans of the general formula: Image (I) in which each R represents lower alkyl and Hal represents chlorine, bromine or iodine are disclosed. The compounds (I) are novel intermediates for the preparation of hypolipidaemic pharmaceuticals. A process for their preparation is described in which a trialkylhydroquinone is reacted with a halogenated butenol to give a substituted tetraalkylhydroquinone, which is then cyclised to form the final product.
