CA 2347962

A step exerciser comprises foot supports cantilevered about a pair of horizontal pivot arms, a vertical tubular member supporting the pivot arms, a base to which the tubular member is fixed, a rotary member disposed inside the tubular member and a counter connected to a display, wherein downward force applied to one foot support is transferred to an upward force applied to the other foot support via transmission through a pair of force transmitting rods and a movement driving rod extending downwardly from each pivot arm, and wherein the oscillatory motion of the force transmitting rods cause the rotary member to oscillate about the longitudinal axis of the tubular member. The counter may include a sensing unit capable of detecting the oscillations of the rotary member and thereby counting the number of stepping exercises performed by the user. The sensor may include a magnet mounted for movement with the rotary member and a stationary magnetic sensor. Also provided is an angle adjustment means for adjusting the angle between the movement driving rods and the foot supports.
